Al-fil (The elephant) It is evident by this artwork and my previous works that elephants hold a special place in my heart. This specific piece was inspired by the 105th chapter in the Qur'an: Al-fil. This piece brought me out of a slump and got me going when I was struggling to start my new series. In this piece I included that which gives me peace. The only exception was making this piece a diptych - something new to me. I drew inspiration from my religion, my personality, busy mind and my favourite animal. Elephants are majestic animals. They're strong. They take up space and are highly intelligent. They are emotionally intelligent and they look out for one another taking it-takes-a-village to an admirable level. So many attributes that were common among native/indigenous groups of peoples that I wish were emulated in the human race. I want people to see this piece and think about comfort zones. I want the viewers, who struggle with starting something and seeing it through to completion, to look at something like this and realize that it is okay to go back to what you know and what gives you peace and use that over and over if you need to. If it helps you realign yourself and help you through a struggle then use what you know to build yourself up again. That's what I did and I hope people can see me through my work.

South Africa
I am a South African artist who took up Visual arts in high school and then went from pursuing engineering to being a full time entrepreneur and self-taught artist. My creativity and ideas stem from emotion and I use art as an outlet. In my work I expose 'me'. I use art as a platform to spark conversations about mental health, cultural and social issues. I make use of a lot of personal elements of my identity to create art. I create expressively and appreciate not needing to conform to the norms. I prefer doing works with acrylic paint but have grown quite fond of mixed media.
