About The Artwork
Alternates is a series of 4 works that are shapes altered in colour and shape in the same environment, starting from a canvas background treated only with casein glue and zinc white pigment to give luminosity. The composition starts from a center with a glaze of a different grade of zinc white pigment to obtain a new and translucent layer that defines a new central space that is very similar throughout the series and it is within this new environment where the composition of orange, fuchsia, pink and violet colours move and recompose a movement that is framed in a blue line of pigment that determines the balance points of the composition. Made with thick brush strokes that are delimited with soft and clean strokes that define the coloured shapes. It is a minimalist abstract work and has elements of geometry. It is signed on the side and back where it also shows the serial number of each work.

Annabel Andrews was born in the Isle of Wight in 1940 now lives and works in El Escorial near Madrid Spain, where the colour, light and volumes of the mountains inspire her work. As also her friendship with the late Spanish artists Pablo Palazuelo and Jose Guerrero. By preparing her own canvases with home made casein glue base and zinc white the work is light and luminous ready for applying acrylic colours.
