An Offering Painting

Please note- this painting is on linen, not canvas. This work was inspired by traditional still life and feminine duties within the home. I hope to create a tension between the soft nature of the fruit and cake and the cutting with the knife. The title 'An Offering' refers to the preparation of the daily meal to be served when a partner returns home and how it can become a ritual of perceived self worth for the cook. I wish to convey the frustrations and bitterness that can become tangled up in this scenario, where the person returning home to the meal holds all the power. Much time was spent on each piece of food to give it a lush-us detail and intensity of a religious work of art.
