About The Artwork

Scottish singer songwriter Annie Lennox is one of my favourite female musicians. She celebrates women. In 2011 Annie received the OBE for her humanitarian work raising awareness for HIV/AIDS affecting women & children in Africa. My painting was included in a recent group exhibition "Women in the World: the Impact of the 19th Amendment" celebrating 100 years at the Dorchester Center for the Arts, Cambridge, Maryland, July 2020.

Lesley is an English artist currently based near Washington D.C. on the Eastern Shore. After graduating from the RCA she lived & painted in London for many years where she exhibited extensively. She moved to Florida with her American husband in 2003 where she was "blown away" by the color & the heat! She re-visited Hockney's California paintings. In 2012 Lesley moved north to Maryland where she discovered a marshy, isolated landscape that resembles Dungeness, Kent, one of her early inspirations "where the wild blue delphiniums grow along the edge of the nuclear power plant". _____________________________________ Lesley paints listening to the BBC radio streaming online. Her work is collected extensively & can be found in Australia, China & Europe as well as the UK & USA. ______________________________________ “Lesley Giles blurs the line between traditional notions of landscape and graphic arts. Giles’s exaggerated colors and stylized patterns, as seen in her striped skies, separate her from earlier artists” Ryan Grover, Curator, Biggs Museum of American Art, Delaware, May 2014.
