About The Artwork

This painting is part of the series of bathers by the artist Nathalie Cubéro. A woman lets herself be carried, as if in weightlessness, underwater. The water is adorned with deep green, blue and turquoise hues. The beautiful long-legged swimmer becomes almost abstract. The body mingles with the liquid material in abstract touches. This painting brings us back to a certain emotion linked to the memory of water, heat, the sea and summer. The artist having lived all her childhood on the shores of the Mediterranean, water has a very particular importance for her.

Nathalie Cubéro is a French painter, living and working in Aix-en-Provence, France. Her work is based on several techniques inspired by urban art such as graffiti or stencil, but also academic techniques, like leaf gilding, in a special care to marry the opposites. Nathalie Cubéro is interested in the human being in all that is most secret and intimate, and depicts her characters in ambiguous situations, at the crossroads. Her protagonists find themselves face to face with the outside world, but especially with themselves, in an almost sudden detachment of the visible reality towards the non palpable. Something is happening, but the viewer must find the answers in his own emotions. Made of personal or fictitious stories, her paintings illustrate an insidious threat, an unrequited happiness, a silent gesture, as many situations turned towards the intimacy of each individual, thus titillating the imagination of the spectator.
