About The Artwork

We moved to the east coast recently and bought a home with a barn. The barn will be my studio someday and in the process of cleaning it, I have discovered artifacts that I instinctively feel hold stories and histories that I started to use as still life materials. When I saw the bottles in this painting on the floor of the second level, I knew I wanted to make a painting with them. I cleaned them up a bit, careful to keep the label on the one on the left and arranged them in front of a painting I made a little over a decade ago. I continue to be inspired by my Pennsylvania roots and simplicity. On a recent trip to the Barnes, I immediately noticed the Charles Demuth watercolors in all the galleries. Being from Lancaster, Demuth has always been an artist I look to as a skilled painter. I seek to create watercolors and still lives that have a historical influence in modernism but a contemporary story relative to how I create them.
