About The Artwork

There’s beauty in the shapes and colours of the dead branches and leaves. I like the shape of the spaces between. I love it when the sun highlights things up close while the sky behind darkens as a storm brews. I wanted to capture the agitation of the clouds, expecting thunder any minute. Meanwhile the Blue-Tit is constantly on the move, seeking food. Acrylics produce good strong colours and texture. The matte finish is ideal for this composition. The deep-edge canvas doesn’t necessarily require a frame, but a tray frame might look good, allowing the edge to be seen, as I paint around the edges as well.

I love the natural world. I was born and raised in the south of England, but have since moved steadily north. I now live in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Yorkshire, a perfect base for observing and painting the natural world. I have a background in graphic design and illustration for book publishers in London and Bristol, but I am now focussed on painting using acrylics on canvas. I am combining my love of studying birds and animals with a life-long passion for drawing and painting human portraits and the natural world around me. I am fascinated and calmed by the effect of strong sunlight on a subject, either in pools of light across a landscape or up close, highlighting a subject. I am enjoying experimenting with using household implements along with artist brushes to spread, stipple and work paint for desired effects. Whilst my design work has been available in book shops up and down the country for a long time, I am a new-comer in presenting my acrylic artworks on canvas to collectors. I paint the things that I like looking at. My hope is that others might be moved by these artworks too.
