Borderland is the place where you go when you've given so much to the other person that there's nothing left for you. You slowly tear yourself and let go. You slowly let memories flow out from your eyes like bubbles and you don't know if it's better to stay alive or cross the border... The red spiral around the androgynous in the foreground vaguely resembles the womb, as a metaphor of a strong desire to feel safe again and full of life. The compass is broken: the protagonist can't find his way back to his lover and to his happiness. This surrealist oil on canvas talks about the loneliness and the depression we feel after a betrayal. It is the second chapter of the collection "The lands where we loved", inspired by the styles of De Chirico and Dali, two of my favourite painters. In this collection the characters don't have a specific gender: they are androgynous to be close to the lgbt ideal of love, a modern vision that tells that love is born between people and not between genders.
