In creating "Bound in Silence: The Puppetry of Women's Constraints," my personal experiences and observations inspired the work. The inspiration stems from witnessing the struggles faced by women, including myself, in contending with societal expectations and the constraints placed upon them. I hope that viewers, upon engaging with the artwork, will feel a resonance with the emotional challenges depicted. By delving into the symbolism of the intricate ropes representing external forces and the silence in the subject's eyes symbolising the suppression of her voice, I aim to evoke a deep sense of empathy. My desire is for viewers to contemplate the intricate web of societal expectations that women navigate daily, prompting thoughtful reflection on the need for societal change and a re-evaluation of gender norms. The choice of medium, subject matter, and style is a deliberate reflection of the emotions and experiences I sought to convey. The use of intricate ropes and the depiction of a woman trapped within them are symbolic of the tangible and intangible forces that restrict and control. The realism in portraying the subject's emotions adds authenticity to the narrative. The subdued colour palette and thoughtful composition contribute to creating a contemplative atmosphere, encouraging viewers to connect on a personal level and fostering a deeper understanding of the nuanced struggles depicted in the artwork.
