About The Artwork
Cheerful Lady is a woman who's free from her labors and enjoying the paradise of hope and relaxation. I thought inspired by the slave black women in the Caribbean who worked in coal production. They carried baskets of coals on top of their heads which was being loaded onto a steamship. However, those women or their female descendants who lived through struggle gain their independence and rights to marry foreigners, travel overseas for work, education and start a major businesses in their countries. However, this painting is a representation for all women around the world who just wanted to relax after a hard day's work doing what they enjoy and forgetting their troubles.
