Clifford Road Painting

This painting is a surreal acrylic landscape painting on a square canvas. Due to the framers being closed, this painting is sold unframed. I have not painted around the edges as I felt this painting would look at its best framed. Clifford is a village and civil parish in Herefordshire, England, four miles to the north of Hay-on-Wye. It lies on the south bank of the River Wye, which forms the border between Wales and England. Through the village runs the B4350 which is the main road. This main road can be seen running through the painting from right to left. This landscape is what we see when on our return drive home from a walk up Hay Bluff. Instead of simplifying the clutter of the landscape, I have left all aspects of the countryside in the painting. This landscape is a mixture it is not an idyllic picture of nature. There are poles, cables, roads with stark white lines, bright green crop fields, little and large trees and mountains in the distance. I like to create a true depiction of a landscape, not an ideal. How the land is day by day, man working with the natural landscape. The colours in this landscape are harmonious, but also bright and varied depicting the changing seasons from winter to spring.
