Close My Eyes #1 Painting

It was inspired by the colours, shapes and lights I see when I close my eyes after having looked at a bright light quickly, like the sun. If you haven't noticed the amazing shapes and colour contrasts before - try it - they even change when you move your eyes around while shut! They vary every single time so it's impossible to capture every experience but this is just a first go at it. I also included someone looking up, just because I wanted to work on a bit of anatomy to keep the techniques sharpened. The painting is 12x16" and is worked in acrylic in a mix of impasto (thick) paintwork direct to the art board and light washes in a watercolour method and palette. The colour background and body colours were built up over time. Using thinner colours on top lets other colours shine through. Sometimes I'd cover up a green with a vibrant fuchsia pink, but the green tone would still poke through, giving the effect and depth I wanted. I hope you like this as much as I do!
