Contemplating the Monument Painting

This work is based on the first automatic or unconscious watercolour I produced in created 'sacred space'. It was a playful attempt to experiment with the idea connecting to something deep within me or even beyond me. The only conscious idea I had before I began was a landscape I often visit in a dream with pools of water and lush green hills. The landscape is otherworldly, suprising and exciting. As the final painting developed more consciously I began to feel that it was partly about the necessity of mankind to reflect on it's own imprints; the consequences and solutions to our being. I wanted it to remain bright in appearance, retaining positive outlook.
