About The Artwork
Out for A Stroll - part of the “ Mermaids of St Ives” collection I spent a couple of years living sketching and painting in St Ives, Cornwall and have made many art trips to the seaside town over the years. This has helped my understanding and appreciation of its magical qualities, becoming mesmerised by the beauty and quality of the light that the place is blessed to receive. This light plays tricks on reflections from the sky on water and creates amazing shadows across the beaches and buildings, constantly changing colours and intensity throughout the day. Porthmeor beach is up there as one of my all time favourite beaches in the world. This oil painting on canvas captures my experience of going out for a stroll on the beach one day. As the tide ebbs and flows it leaves pools of water on the sand, which become a mirror to the sky, reflecting the bouncing light around them. Life, love and happy memories are surrounded by flags, surfboards and sun worshipers as they sit on the golden beach. Clusters of people play happy families enjoying a picnic by the shore. I hope the painting brings you as much pleasure as I did creating it.
