About The Artwork

I have painted this scene a few times now.... The place does exist but I have so many memories, visits and different photos of similar places in the Cotswolds, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire... it's as if all those memories are rolled into one in this 'image' that is imprinted on my artist's soul .... The original one I sold is large, 100x80cm and in a private collection in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in China. A second, a commission is in Japan, near Osaka, a third, in Spain. This one is with me, on exhibition at the moment in a Gallery in Ibiza, Balearic Islands where I have my home. The majority of my paintings are of England, (or France), leafy cool scenes, where light dances through the trees and bounces off water... I think I paint what I miss from the cooler climes... I also paint 'emotionally' rather than with my mind, thinking about composition gets in the way. I just go for it, straight onto the canvas, often with my hands (wearing surgical gloves) to get a 'feeling' going, in the oils, on the canvas, this is the longest painting time. I won't stop until I feel I ve found that special mysticism or image, basically with colour - which subtly suggests, through the shadows and slight patches in the 'backdrop' where I m then going to go with details.. Then I start to move out of the whirling paint rhythm into a more calm, peaceful and settled painting.. It really is like a movement in classical music or opera, which I often use, as support of 'complimentary' in the works. If I start to think, with my mind, I have to put the brush down. I under the direction of my heart, but when it is (I am) detached and especially when I m not in 'my person' ... it feels like it has nothing to do with 'me' the artist in fact. It's a strange feeling of 'doing a service'.... Does any of this make sense to anyone?

Lizzy Forrester is a British born artist, though a resident of Spain. Art, drawing, painting has been a passion all her life, though she only came back to painting in a more decisive way, in 2006 after a "spiritual retreat". It is a privileged to be able to now almost make a living from doing what I love most. Reticent about her artwork, hopefully the paintings speak for themselves. "If it can reach out and touch somewhere deep inside, then I have more than accomplished what I set out to achieve." "Feelings, emotion, the unseen fleeting 'energy' is what motivates me to paint, often arising from stumbling on a scenic view that takes your breath away. If it makes me gasp, I want to paint it" Commissions accepted.
