About The Artwork
My work is inspired by the struggles in the daily lives of my people here in the Philippines. The dried fish hanging symbolizes the false resiliency that is conditioned to us by the Government. It is directly inspired from a movie. In the movie, three men hangs a single dried fish in their dinner table. Instead of physically eating it, they take turn in smelling its strong scent and partner the smell with rice. This is a chilling metaphor and almost accurate depiction of the social condition of most filipino people.
