Original oil painting on canvas board. A red onion is the perfect subject for a still life painting. A simple shape, a complex structure, and a tremendous depth of color. Red onions are not just red, they are purple and violet and magenta and ultramarine and sienna and umber, and more. I paint them using layer upon layer of semi-transparent oil paint to bring out their true beauty. It takes time, but it's worth it. This painting measures nine by twelve inches and it will need to be framed before hanging on a wall.
