My paintings are called "Tiallas" (from Sardinian: tablecloths), they are paintings made on laminated tablecloths. Here the decoration of the tablecloth takes new form, being decontextualized and re-contextualized in a concept of redecoration that tends to give a different point of view to things we have daily before the eyes. This work in particular is part of the Harlequin series. The work was created on request for the exhibition: Pensieri Parole Opere e Omissioni - the original sin at the time of the web - held at the Officine Forte Marghera (Venice - Mestre) and edited by Dr. Simonetta Pavanello who writes about the work: "In Nordic mythology, the legend of Herla King, Hellequin and finally Herlequin, is the transformation of the same damned soul into the comic figure of the Harlequin mask. Andrea Milia interprets the pride in the paroxysmal image of Duilio the Porporoso, which is part of the series of Harlequins which for years has involved the artist, who particularly cares about this character. The predominance of exacerbated facial features, the very solemnity of the name, take shape in the support of a plastic tablecloth with a Baroque print, which refers to the ecclesiastical sphere in purple and converts the papal tiara into a carnival hat. A red scalloped gold frame encloses the effigy in a simulacrum of medieval origin." Simonetta Pavanello

Italy
Andrea Milia was born in Cagliari in 1978; he first attended the scientific high school, but once graduated he decides to follow the artistic vocation and enrolls at the academy of Fine Arts in Sassari. Not having had an artistic background, the years of the academy are years of research of both style and concepts. Most of all in his training, at least initially, the works of Matisse certainly influenced; Even now the color and decoration are the basis of his research. Develop a painting over time away from the canvases, going instead to choose particular supports such as panels in pvc, outdoor blinds, artificial leather, giving the support a predominant role work. After various experiments the "Tiallas" (from the Sardinian: tablecloths) are born, paintings made on laminated tablecloths. Here the decoration of the tablecloth takes new form, being decontextualized and re-contextualized in a concept of redecoration that tends to give a different point of view to things we have daily before the eyes. In parallel to painting, in these ten years Milia matures an experience like engraver thanks to his friendship with the Putzu brothers, owners of GRA.MAR. and marble workers for three generations. Friendship that would later turn into a real one professional processing. At the beginning, he uses scraps of stone and leftovers from processes where test after test begins to mature a trait, until the creation of first design pieces such as tables, showers and the creation of real paintings in granite. The stone fabrics with the creation of cities of cloth and silk are slowly born granite tapestries; works where you can definitely feel the weight of the work of Maria Lai and of a culture with a great tradition of textures and fabrics. A kind of filopittura that it makes the granite "wave", making the stone lose its heaviness. In 2018 the AMstudio opens: a professional studio where he carries out his activity as an artist and creator of artistic design for furniture and construction.
