This painting is on a good quality back-stapled canvas. The sides can be painted black or white depending on the buyers preference. This piece, along with Reflections of Existence Within, was inspired by my vast appreciation and interest in the beauty, balance and order found in nature. In all processes of nature, from the way plants grow and rocks form to the way in which the clouds gather and storms swirl in the sky, there is an underlying pattern and order in the apparent irregularity and chaos. The same self-similarity and re occurrence that these patterns display is present in the branching of rivers throughout the earth and the networks of veins that meander throughout the human heart or lungs. Some theorists believe that it is these fractal patterns that form the underlying order and beauty universally appreciated in the natural world.

Shannon Rose Merrigan is a local artist born and raised in the Portland area. She is finishing her Bachelors in Art Practices Degree at Portland State University, scheduled to graduate in the Fall of 2017. Consistently intrigued in the contemplation of the individual and their relationship and connection to humanity and nature as a whole; Merrigan’s concepts stem from her personal interpretation of nature and her emotional and intellectual responses to her experience. Drawing and painting for over twenty years, she has an extensive collection of work and several of her pieces are in private collections in the Portland Metropolitan area. Merrigan participated in two group shows in 2016; a show called 50 Works at Portland State University’s MK Gallery, and at the 35th Annual Gender Studies Symposium at Lewis and Clark College. Her paintings have also been published in two issues of Pathos Literary Magazine in 2016 as well. Currently she resides in Tigard Oregon with her husband and two children.
