Dana Donaty, (b. Ohio 1966) Colombian American, raised in New Jersey. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing from Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, PA. After living in London, England for twelve years Dana relocated to South Florida. Dana is a multidisciplinary artist widely known for her provocative canvases with unusual narratives which she refers to as ‘memory compositions’. Her works explore the convergence of memory, identity, individuality and influence. At first glance the work evokes a buoyant jubilance, however when taking the necessary time to get "inside" the paintings one discovers references to all manner of subjects from the playful to the profound. Like other contemporary artists who have successfully juxtaposed a range of seemingly random imagery to meaningful result, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Condo, Kenny Scharf and Dana Schutz, Donaty takes a no holds barred approach as she fully immerses herself into her practice "letting it rip", so to speak, into her subconscious self. Dana’s powerfully enticing work invites viewers to delve into a world where anything goes, in order to emerge with new insights. Dana has an art lineage that includes many maternal family members. Notably her mother, her aunt-painter Esther Cárdenas, her cousin-painter Santiago Cárdenas and her grandfather Eduardo Cárdenas, who was invited to emigrate to the United Sates as the first editor of Selecciones del Readers Digest [Spanish version of Readers Digest] Selected solo shows: The Coral Springs Museum of Art, Coral Springs , Florida [2018] The Cornell Museum of Art, Delray, Florida [2018], Paul Fisher Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida [2017] Group exhibits: The Armory Art Center in Palm Beach, Audrey Love Gallery in Miami, Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami, The Art & Culture Center in Hollywood, The Coral Springs Museum of Art, Locust Projects in Miami and The Galleries at Moore in Philadelphia. Works exhibited at art fairs; American International Fine Art Fair, Scope, Red Dot, Art Palm Beach, and Art Boca Raton. Her work is in the permanent collection of The Coral Springs Museum of Art , Government agencies and private collections in the US, and Europe.
