The sky colored with the subdued lights and the pastel tone, and the dream-like and fantastic art work that seems to contain the space of the universe. When we see Chang Eunjung’s such works, we would be intensely attracted to them with some lingering imagery. The power attracting us is reminiscent of the origin of our life starting from a very minimal point only to fade away to an another minimal point; it is sort of “nihilism”. Her works show us as if they were there since billion years ago when things were neither artificial and modern nor sadistic; the starlights twinkle, the flowers fall, and the people walk silently. We can never guess where the starting point is or where the ending one is. The artist contains the process wherethrough a minimal point starts, grows into a grand life and becomes dim to return to its matrix, and thus, expresses a mysterious atmosphere of the metaphysical phenomenon or ‘the life’ given by the God. All the objects shown in the work have their own meaning. Lily, elephant, child, old man, and even the stars revealing their existences with the dim lights... These natural objects continue to appear and disappear, searching for their original meaning. It is a very metaphysical phenomenon of the life. As such, a very tiny point grows into a life possessing a great power and then, fades away to its matrix or the universe. Namely, it would regress to its own meaning and reason for being. The artist expresses such a long journey. Hence, when we see Chang Eunjung’s works, we would be aware that our life is transient, yearning for another world after this life. Let’s desert our fierce life, together with our pain and scars and even our yearning deep inside for something, and then, regard everything as trifle as if we were tiny dusts floating over the cloud, in the sky or sometimes over the universe.
