https://youtu.be/jmdTAHdARVs Art Vancouver Fair 2023 https://youtu.be/_jjzwgDN2Nk Inspired by the Emperor piano concerto by Beethoven, this ‘Empress’ literally summarizes 40 years of art endeavor and experience. Still being innovative and challenging the idea of art, I would belittle myself if I am just making images. If you study my portfolio thoroughly, you could trace how this work came about. I taught calligraphy to students and note the flourishes. Realism was a basis and I have swung back and forth between that and abstraction in presentation. So, you see how these all mix and form the composition! What does Jackson Pollock lines do, I asked? I push forward from the Surrealists’ Automatic Drawing and found figures instead of having lines flowing around looking for a purpose. I build from our predecessors. However avant guarde art tries to be, I believe an art work must still contain a certain charisma and grace. This as counterpart of melody in music reminds us of the good in humanity. In practice, this piece again proves the validity of my subconscious approach in image generation. No artists have come close to discovering this approach. This method makes rendering pretentious in comparison because it is a direct composition drawn from the psyche. It is a vision. Every piece is a chess game. Deciphering the hidden image takes time and envisioning. I could only produce a painting per month and is already stressing myself with a full time job, so production is scarce. This work possesses an alternate clarity and intellectual air. It also speaks of chance as an ‘accidental’ aspects of life, with a pinch of improvisation. Please do not forget the price involves experimentation, effort, dedication, hard work and a wee bit of luck. I am on a mission to push the study of art further and not satisfied as merely an image maker. Now in transit back to Edmonton after the Fair and could not be re-directed to you until mid June 2023.
