About The Artwork

FROM SOURCE TO SEA diptych 2020 acrylic and oil on canvas 250 (w) x 150 (h) x 4 cm 98,4 (w) x 59,1 (h) x 1,6 in 2 LARGE-SIZED PAINTINGS LARGE-SIZED TRILOGY AS DIPTYCH This diptych is inspired by the sea as a never-ending melancholic, bittersweet but beautiful and poetical inspiration. Early in the morning – at noontime – in the evening hours. Down by the sea, lights and colors, wind speed and directions are very different during the day and during the seasons. There are commonalities, but every phase stays independent und has its very own feelings. The sea was, is and always will be a major place of longing for humans. The numeration is almost limitless: brightness, the Azure, summer (although I love the hibernal sea too), sand, waves, never-ending noises of breakers and sea gulls, salt in the mouth and at the skin. Wanderlust and downtime. It is the quiet life down by the oceanside. The sea deeply touches in its nativeness, autarchy, also destructiveness and its existence from the beginning to the end of all times. Every one of us ties his own stories with the sea. The diptych combines two pieces of my series of works with the title SUBZERO from aesthetic standpoints as well as with regard to contents and should "read" from left to right: * left part of the diptych (the source): A LOVE SO DEEP THE OCEAN WOULD BE JEALOUS acrylic and oil on canvas, 2019 59,1 (h) x 47,2 (w) x 1,6 in / 150 (h) x 120 (w) x 4 cm You smile. As you always do. You look like an angel in the fading light. Ocean winds from the South pet your hair. A perfect muse to the painter. Life imitates art, sometimes. For a little while. But not today. No candle in your window. Your beauty will not lead us back to light. The dark before the dawn is my companion. Far away from your specious and dying sun. Where no beam of light warms the sea. Do you remember this place? Do you remember the beginning? A love so deep the ocean would be jealous. This is what we came for. Deeper than the sea. Freediving to the deepest ocean bed. Back to the surface, head above the stormy water. Do you still remember? A love so deep the ocean would be jealous. Behind the horizon, beyond the sea, maybe. A love so high the mountains would fall silent. Under an undiscovered star, in a different universe, maybe. Life imitates art. Sometimes. Life imitates poetry. Sometimes. And sometimes not. * right part of the diptych (the sea): LET THE OCEAN BRING ME BACK SOME MEMORIES OF YOU acrylic and oil on canvas, 2019 59,1 (h) x 47,2 (w) x 1,6 in / 150 (h) x 120 (w) x 4 cm The ocean washes up hopes, daydreams and a bittersweet yesterday. Every one of us ties his own stories with the sea. And my story book has a chapter titled with your name. Where do we come from? Different time, different world. Is there a deeper meaning in these melancholic moments of arrivals and farewells? Faces and emotions come and go unceasingly, and in the middle of all these travels burns a soul full of nostalgia and insomnia. At least the ocean knows about the scars we wear. And at least the ocean brings me back some memories of you. * * * * “I am the shore and the ocean, awaiting myself on both sides.” ~ Dejan Stojanovic (ex: The Shape) * * * * This diptych is a true LARGE-SIZED ARTWORK. For a large-scale, aesthetic and colourful impression on your wall AND as my authentic and personal artwork with an artistic subsurface message. Both paintings are also for sale as single pieces here at Saatchi Art or as parts of the quadriptych DEEP BLUE DAYS DOWN BY THE SEA. This specific diptych offers a price advantage in comparision to the summarized single selling prices. For further information about the specific topic of each artwork and additional photos please visit the pages of the 2 single paintings at Saatchi Art. I use exclusively oil and acrylic colors, canvas and solid wooden frames in a professional museum quality. The two paintings bear my signature on the front and they are signed, entitled and dated on the backside. Deliberately the XL-sides/edges (1,6 in / 4 cm wide) are not part of the paintings and show the black painted canvas (beautiful contrast). The paintings are ready to hang (on the backsides: high-quality iron plates with metal inserts and nylon rope for gallery use), unframed and don’t need a frame or any additional surface treatment. Both paintings have a single hanging (no backside connections between the paintings). This diptych consists of 2 single paintings, each in acrylic and oil on canvas and with dimensions of 59,1 (h) x 47,2 (w) in / 150 (h) x 120 (w) cm. I prefer a hanging distance each of 3,94 in / 10 cm between the 3 single paintings. Complete dimensions of this artwork, including the hanging space between the single paintings: 250 (w) x 150 (h) x 4 cm - 98,4 (w) x 59,1 (h) x 1,6 inches. The artwork (2 paintings) will be safely shipped in a custom wooden crate. It will be accompanied by a cover letter and a certificate of authenticity. Please note: In context pictures are not necessarily to scale and are for illustrative purposes only. If you have any questions about this diptych or any other piece, feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for taking an interest in my work. Warm wishes, Christian

CHRISTIAN BAHR has been a passionate, profound German painter and experienced draftsman for over 35 years, selling his works worldwide. His works can currently be found in private collections and public spaces in the US, Mexico, Canada, UK, China, Thailand, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Malta, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. His atmospheric large paintings are poetry and artistic struggle at the same time. They capture both harmony and conflict, overall reflecting a strong aesthetic. He has participated in many national and international exhibitions. What he believes in: ........................................................................... “Not everything is art. But art is everything and everything breathes art in one way or another. Art is the true beauty of mankind.” ........................................................................... “I work in my studio nearby the big German coastal city of Hamburg, on the North sea. I’m a seeker as a painter, in search of answers. The single human takes center stage. I work constantly, with great passion and discipline on my further artistic way. I have a clear, strong painting philosophy. And I deal with philosophical, mythological as well as with historical subjects in my works.” ........................................................................... “I go my own way in my paintings. I find the source for my inspiration in me. Spontaneous action is the key, my preferred method. I work intuitively and in most cases without previous sketches, because I do not need a creative distance, I only reduce the view of our surroundings. Added value and clarity through abstraction. It must be rough, original, melancholic, dark, and yet at the same time bright, poetic, clear and full of hope. No maybe, no lukewarm. Every moment counts. That's exactly how I paint." ........................................................................... “Painting is a beauty, soul and passion, but sometimes fighting. A fight with myself, an endless struggle for colors and motif in my own conversation, as a rough internal dialogue. There are these days and nights, when I fight for every single brushstroke, when I question every color scheme. But it is good it is not always easy. Because each artistic battle is worthwhile and shows that I am - as an artist - still alive, breathing and developing.“ ...........................................................................
