ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting stands on its own and is also part of the Triptych 'Habitat 2'. It can be purchased individually or as part of the Triptych, which is also featured on this site. Traces of clothing interweave with the figure's surrounding Habitat, of trees and of Fungi; alluding to hidden networks of Fungi that link so much of the living world; like a world wide web. This collection is painted on canvas that is stretched on Aluminium stretcher bars, which are light and strong and don't warp. 120 x 100cm. These paintings are conceptual portraits and they show Humankind's interdependence with our Planet; the way our existence interweaves inextricably with all life forms. These paintings merge the identity of the figure with the figure's natural surroundings. The figure appears to be dissolving in to the landscape or maybe floating above it, resting within it and integrally interwoven with her natural surroundings; human and nature as one. I have been reading Merlin Sheldrake's 'Entangled Life' and I am influenced in this work by his scientific investigations of Fungi and how they create incredible networks that are hidden, yet sustain so much of the living world. Specific starting points are only springboards for conceptual portraits. II am thereby expressing hope that our Planet can remain in balance; with humans existing alongside Nature and with humans as stewards.
