About The Artwork
Whilst traveling in the Canary Islands Melvyn witnessed juvenile Gannets diving. He couldn't work out what birds he had been photographing, as the plumage was dark. On Melvyn's return home he started researching and visually exploring sea birds, their nature and feeding habits. He later discovered the birds where gannets. He explored the beauty in their streamlined physic, the aerodynamic acrobatic displays and the movement of the ocean as the Gannets accelerated into the already boiling sea.

Melvyn Warren-Smith 7.3.48 Artist Born Kingston–Upon–Thames Using rich, vibrant oil colour the Stroud Artist depicts landscape still life and portraiture with great intensity and often uses humour to spice up the moment. Melvyn studied fine art in London and went on to win a David Murray landscape scholarship from the Royal Academy of Arts. For many years he worked as a highly sought-after illustrator specialising in romantic book-covers, working with such authors as Catherine Cookson, Maeve Binchy and Edwina Currie.
