About The Artwork

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Name: Felix Krull Diptych: "The wrong Felix Krull" and "The true Felix Krull?" Original title: Name: Felix Krull Diptychon: "Der falsche Felix Krull" und "Der wahre Felix Krull?" Date: 2014 und 2012 Description: acrylic, facet lacquer, glue, painting media rust and copper patina on charcoal drawings by unknown artist (from the time of the 1st world war, on cardboard) and G. Weinland (01.03.1941, on paper) on yellowed 1941 newspaper in passepartout and dark brown varnished wooden frame behind glass Outer dimensions (two frames): (left) 21.1 x 25.5 x 1.2 in and (right) 21.1 x 25.5 x 1.2 in Remark: This is a commissioned work. The goal was to create a diptych with the already existing work "The true Felix Krull?" (on the right). "The wrong Felix Krull" on the left, with an original artwork from the First World War and "The true Felix Krull?" on the right, with an original drawing from the Second World War, are facing each other. This charcoal drawing of 1941 was in the original frame directly on a newspaper, also from the year 1941, which bore the article headline "Because of the preference to the good living he became a hotel thief" (right in the piece of art on the upper left), which allowes a connotation to the literary main figure In Thomas Mann's novel "Confessions of Felix Krull". The artwork was sold to a private collector in Berlin. The Felix Krull Diptychon belongs to the work complex of the "Sampling Art" which is a main part in the work of Ulrich F. Stanke and includes regulary the work complexes of the "Aesthetics of Transience" and the Golden Section. The Sampling Art is essentially the use and the painting on top of original artworks by other artists, in which the use of samples in music is transferred to the visual arts. Bands, concerts, music releases and, in particular, the remixing of musical compositions reveal the artist's strong relationship to music, which illustrates: the Sampling Art is an interdisciplinary bridge between music and fine arts. The focus of Sampling Art is not the destructive process - the destroying of original artworks, but the creation of new art through existing works. Like for example the artworks of the well-known American artist Steve Keene, whose oeuvre is stated with over 250000 artworks. Steve Keene paints up to 100 images per day with series of same motifs, so the use of fewer of his works for the Sampling Art can be considered as non-destructive. The Sampling Art sharpens the creative view of the beholder by changing of the input originals and by changing of their original subjects. The application of new surfaces, the use of several originals - which can lead to a dialogue with each another - or the focus on certain partial excerpts necessitates a re-evaluation of the original art work and context. The "Aesthetics of Transience" is aimed at the time and its inherent decay - everything ages, inevitably, also art and its works. Ulrich F. Stanke works with rust, copper patina and facet lacquer to create brittle, perishable and forming through their randomness natural phenomena or stratifications which are in contrast to the constructive composition. Ulrich F. Stanke lets the works of other artists age - they start to rust, get wrinkles and patina. The Golden Section, more precisely the Golden Rectangle, regularly occurs in his works and often provides the basis for his compositions. The Golden Rectangle consists of a square and a smaller Golden Rectangle. The natural balance of the ratio in the Golden Section is illustrated by its mathematical equation: The ratio of the longer distance (A) to the shorter distance (B) equals to the ratio of the total distance (A + B) to the longer distance (A). Ulrich F. Stanke contrasts this aesthetic balance to the lack of symmetry and explores constructivistically the boundaries between tension and pleasure. All commissions are subject to "Speculation Art". The Speculation Art, which Ulrich F. Stanke has founded, is a project of art, in which his artworks are subject to price fixing – prices are fixed between 2015 and 2040 and rise by 25 per cent annually. The Speculation Art is a persiflage of the art market and infiltrates the market mechanisms of the art market. The Speculation Art is an art action that will help collectors and art lovers to buy art through stable and transparent price developments and brings non-elitist, non-artistic layers of people to the purchase of artworks. With the Speculation Art Ulrich F. Stanke criticizes the art market from which he discloses the existing market mechanisms and brings them to light by using this mechanisms itself like a mirror to show how they work and how irrationally they are. Every sold artwork of Ulrich F. Stanke confirms this vicious system, plays the ball back and the acceleration increases. It is to be assumed that Ulrich F. Stanke has created with this work a new art genre in the fine, free and interdisciplinary art, namely the finance art. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I would be glad to do commissioned works according to your requirements and in the size you desire. Give your creativity free rein! Please do not hesitate to tell me your ideas about an artwork or your dream painting, which still needs to be created. Sincerely yours Ulrich F.
