Painting: Oil on Canvas.
one of a series of paintings using ephemeral subject matter in precarious arrangements. This arrangement had a dynamic quality, the fine curl of the stem opening out to the leaf and roll of paper. Their shadow created a kind of wake or dark stream that continued the movement off the edge of the painting. The unified dynamic seemed to me to resemble that of a slingshot and the rich reds and neutrals, the strong chiaroscuro and slightly violent energy suggested the Baroque of Caravaggio, so I named it Fionda - Italian for slingshot.
