About The Artwork

One painting in a series of work Titled"Memory: Archive of Change. I have always been inspired by what is familiar, what is routine, and what is not seen because it is so ordinary. When I make artwork I hope to pose the following questions. When do mundane environments transform into something greater? How does a simple pattern of cloth reconstruct into a symbol of nationalism, a flag, a visual cry for political change? When do memories of childhood places such as parks, neighborhoods, beaches, and forests, when revisited, narrate the tale of economic and environmental calamity? How does a vintage shop conjure heart-stabbing personal recollections? These questions also contribute to the understanding of the power of the visual, whether it is an abstract pattern on a chair, a view from a window, or simply the visual remembrance of an object such as a pitcher or a tool.
