About The Artwork
Thinking about humans and the ways we exclude or give others 'the cold shoulder'. By putting the birds in a winter scene for me it enhanced that feeling of being frozen out of a conversation. But there is also the question of why that bird didn't have the awareness that they were on a potential ice flow... I've done many paintings of the crows and ravens - very smart creatures , this subject continues to fascinate me.

While my painting is typically representational – some pieces move into abstraction. I usually pursue a particular theme for several years running or until the question/investigation has run its course. Currently I'm focused on dogs and fish. My background in sculpture informs the way I think about constructing or building a painting- placing figures together in postures of my choosing.
