About The Artwork
God Save the Queen is an allegory of our inability to perceive the importance of bees and their pollination work. It belongs to the Maya series, where I explore the invisible connections bees weave among plants in their flying routes and pollination — also our difficulty in appreciating their importance and avoiding their vanishing. The techniques are mixed media and acrylic paint on canvas. I have used silica sand and pumice powder to make textures. Layering and gradients give this piece an atmospheric and evocative look and feel.
