Each of the paintings of the "Guitar-Soul" series could be seen as a sort of vanitas. Or, perhaps, only a picture that represent isolated systems subjected to forces that -because cannot be assimilated- cause an increase of entropy. Having just turned 40 years old, I reach the end of a process of conversion that makes it possible for me to introduce my work today to anyone who peeks into this window. After studying Mathematics at the UCM in Madrid, when I was working for a technological company, my artistic vocation awoke from its lethargy, and with it was born the powerful affirmation of the existence of a more conducive location to migrate to. Taking advantage of the free time I had after work, I entered a painting academy. Soon after that, I joined an engraving workshop. Over the following years I extended my training with Graphic Design and Illustration studies. Simultaneously, I soaked up all the knowledge I was able to. I read, I read and I read. About art, philosophy, culture... I eagerly consumed all the the audio-visual material, fortunatelly accessible on the internet nowdays. In short, I fed from the knowledge and practice that my journey required, looking for the necessary energy to be able to draw a “escape line”. When I felt a solid platform under my feet, I decided to make the leap toward the field of experimentation. A new time had come to move on to new territories, wherein to deal with problems associated to the development of a language, together with problems related to the the definition of a style. I quit my work at the office to devote myself exclusively to develop my work as a painter. To forge images in which to assimilate ideas, to capture memories, to enclose intuitions. To paint, ultimately, trying to apprehend on a canvas the different areas of the navigated reality, adopting the practice of painting as way of knowledge and thought. Achieving painting has not been easy for me, but if there is something I am sure of, is that all the difficulties -all the bumps of this intricate road- have been decisive for my “becoming-painter” and I would have never wanted it to be otherwise. I am pleased to share with you the result of these nearly seven years of journey. Jesús Amado, Madrid. Text drafted in January and revised in May 2017.
