This oil painting is inspired by one of my favorite artists' style, Peter Doig. It leaves the interpretation of the story open to viewers and reminds me of a surrealistic or fantasy scape. Where is the car on the highway headed to? Who's in it? Why are they dreaming about gulmohars? And what does the title Gulmohar Dreams imply? A contemporary, conceptual artwork, this has been created using oil paints on canvas, in a fairly realistic style. Thick paints have been used for the sky, and the grass has been painstakingly created stroke after stroke, aiming to achieve a similarity as well as the appearance of distance. I was so inspired by the title that floated into my consciousness that I decided to write a book around that idea. The book by the same title, Gulmohar Dreams, is my first "novel". It is a work of fiction but with insights inspired by a personal journey. Gulmohar Dreams is an epistolary novel that explores the spiritual journey of a young writer as she moves through unexpected personal changes that compel her to redefine the meaning of her life. Faced with the gut-wrenching changes, Kamia Mirchandani, or Mia as she is often called, goes through a process of analysis and healing, trying to make sense of it all, in the end to come out stronger, healed, and sorted. In an idyllic setting of a writer's retreat over a month's stay, the protagonist explores in depth her fears, her feelings, and her failures, in the end to successfully transmute pain into power, via a series of letters to the Universe. The story ends with Mia happy to be by herself, living with unconditional self-love, eagerly looking forward to living the life of her dreams.

Contemporary Indian artist Dharshana Bajaj believes painting is her soul's mission! Her paintings celebrate the “human–nature” interconnection. Inspired by the ancient Indian Advaitha philosophy, and her own spiritual practices such as meditation and journaling, Dharshana aims to depict the “Oneness” of all that exists in her art. Deeply concerned about the climate change crisis, she wishes to raise awareness in the viewer on the importance of “reconnecting” with and bonding with nature, the way our ancestors did for thousands of years before. Dharshana believes that when each of us wakes up to the truth that we are not “apart” from Nature, but “a part” of it, we will start making better choices collectively. Her preferred medium is oil paints on canvas, but she also loves experimenting with other mediums. Her art is colorful, varied, and joyous. While much of her work is conceptual, she combines both representations and abstractions.
