Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

A reproduction of four film stills from the 1967 William Klein film 'Qui êtes vous, Polly Maggoo?', this painting attempts to condense the films satire of the fashion industry into a single moment. Although the film is lighthearted (and satirical), there are contemplative undertones which reference both the transience of fashion and the model. Each painted film still becomes increasingly blurred, as if the subject is slowly dematerialising in front of the viewer. Forced to witness the decline of a supermodel, viewers begin to consider both their own existence and Polly's. Ironically, after starring as Polly Maggoo in the production, model and actress Dorothy Mcgowan disappeared out of the public eye.
