‘I am a Rock’ continues the theme of David Bennison’s Labyrinth Series paintings where lovable elephants and manic Chimpanzees frolic through castle ruins and lighthouses. These mischievous creatures have become over time, reoccurring metaphors that symbolize the existential human condition within David’s work. In this particular image, the old wise knight sat guarded on a powerful and steadfast mountain of books protects himself by cunningly utilizing his wisdom from his many years of knowledge acquisition. ‘I am a Rock’ was also part-inspired by Simon and Garfunkel. “I have my books And my poetry to protect me I am shielded in my armour Hiding in my room, safe within my womb I touch no one and no one touches me I am a rock I am an island” Simon and Garfunkel, ‘I am a Rock.’ This ready to hang original artwork has been painted on wooden board, framed and personally signed and supplied with a certificate of authenticity from Saatchi Art and the artist, David Bennison.
