The underlying message behind this piece is that we can not trust the value of cash and turn to trusting the value of gold. There was once a time where money was backed by the gold in Fort Knox. It seems that the dollar does not hold the value that it once had and money has turned into paper and digital numbers. This idea is very disturbing as it is obscure and hard to understand the non physical nature of money.

Sey is a conceptual mixed media artist and award winning contemporary designer based in Los Angeles, CA. Sey was born in Tokyo , raised in New York and earned an art degree at Pratt Institute. Through Sey’s exposure to different cities and cultures, his art naturally reflects popular culture touching on topics such as consumerism and capitalism. Sey has been able to lead conceptual design projects and develop new ideas of automation and aesthetic through various visual mediums using vibrant color with a vast range of mixed material allowing him to develop a relationship with his work. He has done solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York, as well as participated in art fairs in Miami Art Basel. He has also been awarded the top designer award for Tokyo Designers Week and has worked with brands like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mattel and the Andy Warhol Foundation. The bold graphic aesthetic and organic textural quality of his work creates a conversation about the obscurity between art and design. His unbounded method of combining a variety of material ranging from paint and wood, to resin and acrylic gives the work layers of depth. Sey presents a new perspective and flare to iconic imagery with a conscious yet humorous message on social or political issues. art portfolio: http://seyxyes.com design portfolio: http://shimuradesign.com instagram: @seyxyes
