About The Artwork

A young man shares his concerns about how people judge and treat individuals differently based on their outward appearances. He, with his dreadlocks and piercings, stands as a character of those who often bear the pressure of such unfairness. He yearns for a world where these divisive actions could be replaced by understanding and compassion. Judgments only serves to distance us from one another. By embracing people for who they are, rather than how they look, we foster a culture that values acceptance and inclusion. The man contemplates on how to break the power of stereotyping. When we cease to pre-judge, we open ourselves to deeper connections and meaningful relationships, rooted in the qualities and character of individuals rather than superficial assumptions. With each brushstroke, the artwork highlights the importance of personal growth that arises when we allow people to flourish in their true forms. Suppressing someone's unique identity suppresses their potential, whereas acknowledging and respecting it fosters personal development. The frown on the face of the man is a mirror reflecting the very essence of our society. He hopes that by treating one another with kindness, we set a positive example for the generations to come. Such actions shape a world where empathy thrives, and understanding becomes a way of life. By doing so, we lay the foundation for a harmonious society where every individual is celebrated for who they are, rather than being confined by how they appear.

My name is Samuel Oseigyei Kumah. I was born on the 10th of September, 1988. I come from Ketekra-chi in the Oti region but lived and grew in Nima located in Greater Accra. I had both my elementary and junior high education at 37 Military basic school. I got enrolled in Ghanatta college of Arts and Design where I polished my talent as an artist. I discovered my talent at age 8 while in the elementary school but my parents especially my mother disagreed with me choosing to become an artist because she felt it was not a well paying profession. But with grandmother behind me, I managed to pursue it. I worked as an apprentice under three different masters in quest for skills and experience to be able to fit in the job market. In 2012, I started working as a full time versatile artist with the name Big Sam Arts. Due to how beautiful and quality my works are, I have been able to receive certificates and awards both internationally and locally. I am an artist who uses the color blue in my paintings of human figures to bridge the gap between different skin tones. I believe that the color blue is a universal color that can represent all people, regardless of their race or ethnicity. By choosing to paint my figures in blue, I am creating a visual representation of unity and harmony. I hope that my work can help to promote a more inclusive and accepting society. My artworks also aim to solve problems worldwide which includes love, sadness, happiness and preach peace. I am inspired by the challenges that people face around the world, and I want my work to be a force for positive change. I believe that art can be used to raise awareness of important issues, and I hope that my work can help to make a difference in the world. I am also committed to disregarding racism and encouraging oneness. I believe that we are all human beings, and we should treat each other with respect and compassion. I hope that my work can help to create a more just and equitable world.
