Islamic flags Painting

Oil on canvas Living in Morocco, Islam has become somewhat of a fascination. For this diptych I chose the profusion of designs used to represent Islamic countries on flags and paper money, I tried to include every specific elements related to the different designs in flags for Muslim countries. For the background patterns I selected designs from banknotes from Islamic countries. I came to chose this subject matter when embarking on a discussion with a Moroccan friend who claimed that money was worth more in so called western democracies comparatively to the Islamic economies, maybe due to my lack of knowledge of Islamic economies versus non Islamic economies, I believe the world to be relative and Islamic or not, certain economies are stronger than others and it is not in relation to the countries religious context.
