I was commissioned to create this painting for a book cover A model was dressed in the appropriate costume, a violin, and set in a garden with good weather. It was unusual to have a musician playing a violin in a garden I thought it was a romantic feel for the book. The period was 1947 I painted it in oils and the book sold well!

Melvyn studied fine art in London and went on to win a David Murray landscape scholarship from the Royal Academy of Arts.
