About The Artwork

"Juggling in the Firmament," 2007.
Diptych. Acrylic on canvas. (Photographed wrapped over wood stretcher.) 30” W x 72” H (76.2 x 182.88 cm) / Organic Realism Diptych comprised of two panels: Top panel: 30” W x 24” H (76.2 x 60.96 cm) Bottom panel: 30” W x 48” H (76.2 x 121.92 cm) "Juggling in the Firmament" is yet, another magnificent work, bearing the signature marks of Jay Worth Allen's timeless style born out of a brilliantly free spirit — thick, broad brush strokes intertwined with contrasted subtlety and delicate application as seen in works by masters during the Renaissance period harmoniously melded with the boldness of more recent artists, such as Jasper Johns, Jim Dine, and even the late Pop artist, Rauschenberg — with whom Jay Worth Allen’s works are exhibited side-by-side in professional collections of many art lovers across the world. Through the use of a diptych (two-panels) that has been painted on all four sides in addition to the work’s main canvas front, Jay Worth Allen has given us a powerful, multi-faceted yet almost child-like imagery in “Juggling In The Firmament” that transcends age and culture into an unadulterated purity: Clay-brick reds mixed wet with titanium white form seven perfect, spinning spheres caught in mid-air within an atmosphere comprised of brilliant titanium clouds swirling within deep cerulean blues, all of which unabashedly dance in pure light as from the Creator himself, while the One juggling is just out of frame of the canvas. “Juggling In The Firmament” is a tremendous breath of fresh air during this time of seemingly widespread upheaval raging in every facet of human existence. In fact, this is alluded to in the following excerpt from a recent article regarding the state of art today: “Humanity has a natural hunger for the creation and enjoyment of art. Just like our other instinctual appetites, we aren't really satisfied with anything but the real . . . . Traditionally, art (is) . . . in (many) ways . . . impossible to reduce into language. True art delivers inspiration to live up to ideals. True art gives encouragement to think and feel deeply. True art causes a yearning to harmonize with truth and beauty.” (Reclaiming Art As A Force For Liberty, 11 June 2021) The artist himself, Jay Worth Allen has maintained for decades that “True art must invoke something within the beholder . . . an emotion, a feeling, a memory — an expression . . . something, anything — but it has to make an impact on the one experiencing the art. Otherwise, it’s literally nothing but an inanimate object, lifeless, worthless . . . waiting for the trash bin. I wholeheartedly agree. During his earlier years in Texas, Jay Worth Allen became well known, not only for his musical pieces, and equine tributes, he was also known for painting "round things” — including full-bodied hearts, ice-cream cones, and flying fruit. Having studios in Houston and Dallas, it was while at his main studio in Austin that a wealthy New Orleans patron once sent her private 747 jet for the sole purpose of procuring her recent purchase of the artist’s “Flying Strawberries” (60” H x 43” W) an acrylic on canvas painting. Another work celebrating “round things” is actually being offered here, at Saatchi Art, titled “Nice Buncha Grapes.”
As with the other pieces in this collection, the significance of this piece is profound. An exquisite technical accomplishment, in particular, this work culminates the artist's move into a deeper plane of the fons et origo which the he paints -- refreshing, unabashed freedom, unencumbered by human conditioning— where, if one listens, the very breath of God can be heard.
Works from these series are in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad, as well as in several gallery owner's private collections, wineries, corporations, and more.
Please visit Jay Worth Allen's profile for more information, and to view other works currently being offered through Saatchi Art. We appreciate and encourage any comments. Thank you.

— Artist Statement — I was born. When I was about 6, I started drawing. Later, I started painting. That's still what I'm doing. What I know, I put into my work. I am interested in visible or tangible things that ARE, rather than Opinion. In my work, there are pre-formed, conventional, depersonalized, factual elements — impartial objects. I am concerned with the wholeness of a thing remaining within the boundaries of knowledge. It is within this boundary that I strive to conceal and reveal known objects at the same time. We have an existing language of words, signs, symbols, shapes, formulas, treatises, poems and the like — whole bodies of belief and knowledge that can, presumably, describe and penetrate anything and everything. Yet, I am forced to recognize that the system which enables me to form a piece of art and to think coherently cannot define how I uniquely think or feel, or even how I picture myself and everything outside myself. The plane of my work has always been real things — REAL MOMENTS RESTING IN TIME, where the ideational and perceptual worlds intersect to form image, idea, icon, and space, and — where I, and therefore the viewer, is projected through to another reality. Technique is inextricably tied to the content of my work. By working in all mediums, I work with numerous techniques. As a painter, acrylic is my medium of choice. My 3D & sculptural materials range from chicken wire to wood to concrete blocks to whatever material I find in my field of sight. The methods I use in printmaking (woodblock, silkscreen, blueprints, lithographs) all combine multiple processes. For me there is no hierarchy among these mediums and techniques; yet, drawing is the foundation for all my work. It’s is the way I speak the best, the clearest. — Brief Bio — On March 6 (the anniversary of Michelangelo’s birthday), J. Worth Allen (“Jay”) was born in Daylight, Tennessee. He grew up in Austin. Studied in Memphis, London, Oxford, New York, Los Angeles—. Has exhibited in New York, Texas, California, London, Edinburgh, France, and beyond. At 16, he was accepted into the top 3 art schools in the nation, each, with full scholarships: Pratt Institute/Fine Art, The Art Institute of Chicago and The Art Academy in Memphis, which won out (via a cartographical nudge from his dad).
