Kitsune: Portrait of Ai - Limited Edition 3 of 100 Painting

A pencil artist for most of my life, this was my first independent project in oil. I began this piece after attending my friend's traditional Shinto-style wedding in Japan. The beauty of the ceremony and setting is subtly coupled here with my love for folklore. Kitsune, the Japanese word for fox, has special significance in Shinto folklore. These wise creatures can shape shift into human form. In one story, Kitsune is a white fox who transforms into a beautiful woman after falling in love with a human man, whom she marries. Although there is always something to give away her true identity – such as her ears, tail or shadow – the man does not notice, as he is blinded by his love for her. In this piece, her tail can be seen peaking out from the folds of her kimono. ‘Kitsune: Portrait of Ai’ is a limited edition giclee reproduction on canvas of the original oil on canvas painting of the same title. The edition size is 100, and prints are numbered and signed by the artist. Dimensions are 24.25 x 30.25 x 1.5 inches (gallery wrapped). The prints are sealed with a clear UV coating on the front to protect against fading, as well as a thin clear film on the reverse of the canvas to protect against mold and pests.
