L.A. Lover 5 is inspired by those who have lost their homes recently due to eviction in the face of financial hardship brought on by COVID-19 and previous economic strife. LA is a city of diversity and renowned culture. It brings me great pain that so many people who love LA are being evicted when there is a global pandemic wreaking havoc on our economy and well-being. I am hopeful that through collectors' generosity and appreciation, I will be able to donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale of LA Lover 5 to the Eviction Defense Network to help those in need. The central image of L.A. Lover 5 was created from a rubbing of a man hole cover outside my home in the Arts District of Los Angeles that reads "L.A. Water". I transformed the rubbing to read "L.A. Lover" that commemorates those who truly love this city of angels and diversity. The torn paper lines are layered in a way that create a 3 dimensional relief of texture, movement and energy. Using paper that arrives in my mailbox that is inherently superfluous, transforms it's junkness into a material that is valuable, recycled and beautiful. I made the L.A. Lover series as a statement of pride that Los Angeles is a city inhabited by citizens inspired by the wondrous, diverse and full of life metropolis that keeps us connected.
