La Gracieuse en Méditerranée / Frigate La Gracieuse on the Mediterranean Sea (Oil on linen canvas, 60”x 80”/ 152cm x 203cm) Inspired by Gottlieb Muffat’s Allemande (Componimenti Musicali Suite 1 in C major). This majestic and large seascape depicts three 18th century ships each bearing their maritime flag of the time: French frigate La Gracieuse (white royal flag of the kingdom of France) a Maltese polacca (red with cross of the Order of St John) and a Venitian two-decker in a fictional Mediterranean setting inspired by the city of La Valletta.
