About The Artwork
Large White Field is a non-objective field of subtle white, black, ochre and grey lines. It is comprised of thousands of lines, flecks and particles all woven together into a uniform mass and contained within a dark vignette representing infinite space. Meditation, or the act of dispassionately observing physical sensations has sensitised me to the subtle vibrations and energy within my body. These sensations directly influence and create my changing states of mind. If the field of lines and particles are delicate, my mind and thoughts feel sensitive and harmonious. My goal in creating these monochromatic fields of infinite lines and particles is to evoke subtle sensations in the viewer and elevate his or her state of mind. I find this body/mind experience most interesting and profoundly enlightening. Paintings provide an effective vehicle for eliciting such profound experiences. When we experience our reality, as it is happening in the moment, we become attuned to life itself.

Perhaps my appreciation for abstraction comes from living in Canada surrounded by mountains, lakes, sky and forests. Nature continually presents me with soothing colours, exciting designs, delightful patterns, intriguing patinas and infinite space. Nature presents light, dark, shadows and movement which evoke emotions of mystery, wonder and love. My goal as a painter is to use nature’s abstract elements like colour and space to capture a particular feeling, a feeling of unity, passion or peacefulness. I strive to create painterly abstractions that mysteriously resonate with my deeper self and hopefully with the soul of the viewer. I believe art is a way to communicate one soul to another.
