About The Artwork
‘Lawless’ is a mixed media work on paper. The stylised outline of a surge of rising waves is foregrounded, reaching across the page. A muted palette of sea greens and blues wash and spill over rust colours. There are smatterings of hurriedly applied thick white gesso/paint that is also etched back into. Beneath this turmoil of mark making, in blue ink, the following words are handwritten, “Where did you think you were going in that scratchy cap, with those swimmers arms? ‘Too much’ our friends said, ‘Unbelievable!’. But I know, you and the briny deep are lawless together.”
