I was invited to donate a painting to an auction for the benefit of industry charity NABS (National Advertising Benevolent Society) held on 26th October at Whitespace in Edinburgh. They issued 21 x 15 cms canvasses to all contributing artists. I requested two so I could create a diptych of an idea inspired by a photo I'd cut from a magazine. The sandpaper figure, cut from S3-40 grit paper, symbolises the risks we all take in life. Some are worth it, some less so, but each leap of faith adds to the sum total of our experience, which is a process of attrition – hence sandpaper. This image seemed to relate to the charity's aims: "NABS is here to improve the wellbeing of everyone in the advertising and media industry".
