Leaping Underwater Figure Painting

I was born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, moved to California in the early 80's and have been living in Santa Barbara ever since. I have made my living as a full time painter for many years now, selling my work through galleries, direct sales, and working with interior designers. My medium of choice is acrylic paint, generally on canvas. Some of my work is figurative, some is abstract, some a combination of both. My technique is to use multiple thin layers of paint, letting each layer dry before applying the next, sometimes sanding in between, thereby creating an optical mix that gives nuances and depth of color through the overlays. My subject matter varies, but each painting is a celebration of nature in some form, even in the abstract, and an attempt to create a feeling of calm and harmony, a small oasis from the chaos of the world.
