About The Artwork

The multi-talented Lily Sly has been modelling for 11 years for a vast array of disciplines, from video and photography to drawing and sculpture, and to even body painting and make-up. She has a knack of producing top quality poses for any length of duration too - able to pose in slow, continuous movement or long 45 minute poses, and from academic style to completely innovative, contorted poses. She's one of Paris' finest. This was a 20 to 25 minute seated pose which has a lot of interesting features from the raised leg with the head resting on the knee, to the angle in the upper body that creates a curve that runs from the left foot all the way through the torso to the head. The angled head and sideways glance in the opposite direction to the curve is also very appealing, and the indication of the right hand underneath on the opposite side of the chair implies to the viewer the twist in the upper body. It was done with a mixture of black gouache and coloured acrylics on brown, textured craft paper (the reverse side of which is smooth). I used the black gouache for sketching out the figure and then I worked over the top with a red acrylic for the hair, white for the general skin tone and mixed the two together for certain areas to add some flush. I added a tiny bit of shadow with a dry brush effect, and with the same effect I added some tone behind the model to make her pop off the page. It was done at the Wednesday evening Life Drawing sessions held at Illumination Mac Guff, Paris, where I worked as a Character Animator for over three and a half years. The studio is known for such films as Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets and The Lorax. All of my figure drawings are from life - no photos were used at any point in their fabrication. The model is in front of you and you have a definite amount of time to get down as much information as you can or see fit. Because of this, each drawing is truly unique and a complete one of a kind, containing a spontaneity that can never be duplicated through photo inspired drawings/paintings. Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

English/French Character Animator that has worked on animated feature films, 'Nimona', 'Missing Link', 'The Secret Life of Pets', 'Minions', and many more over the last 16 years. Figure/Life Drawing is my passion and as well as being something I take great pleasure in doing, also has a very beneficial impact on my professional work in terms of anatomy, weight, movement and posing. When drawing the human figure I love using shadow to create volume and depth, I love trying to capture the weight and movement in an anatomically correct and yet loose manner, and above all, I love finding little attentions to detail that capture the essence of the model, especially around the face. I have lived across 3 different European countries and the US, and am now living in London, UK.
