About The Artwork

I’m specialized on doing portraits and I do them live and also from photography. But I’m really into photography. I’m always looking for inspiration specially from innovative sources, like independent photo magazines or underrated artists from the past. In this painting the portrait is inspired from the photo of the model Ling Chen by photographer Felicity Ingram, published in Vogue UK, JAN 2022.

Natalia Politowa is a plastic artist of German origin, established in Barcelona. Graduated from the prestigious Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2012 with a bachelor degree in fashion she also study Fine Art in Bielefeld, Germany under the surveillance of Manfred Schnell. Since then she’s been working in the fashion industry as a designer but her artistic activity also embraces art and painting. On the artistic side, since moving to Barcelona, she has been collaborating with the young artist collective Art Lover Ground, with whom she has exhibited several times, even showing her work at the influential ARCO art fair in Madrid. Her minimalist, but also expressive and dynamic style, a precise technique and the innovative way of presenting her paintings, have generated great expectation in Barcelona’s young artists scene. Natalia‘s usual working process is based on the use of three or four acrylic colors, mixed with chalk and carbon, creating a minimalistic and raw expression, leaving more space and attention to the fine lines and movements of the drawing. In her current works she‘s focussing on de- constructing the format using separate papers and taping them together as a platform for the drawing, with the aim to create movement between the tapes and the edges of the paper, and of course the proper dynamic drawing, going away from the tried and tested waters of plain canvas.
