ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I am working on a series of sheets that develop around the repetition of one single word, or even on single writing movements. Repeating is an exercise of the mind and soul. Further, the sound of my hand moving on the surface of the paper, the sound of the paintbrush, as I write. I love it when your attention is turned to sounds so soft that we usually don't hear them, or, actually, listen to them. Writing is also an exercise in many disciplines -as in listening, when you write, the other characters and words present on the paper must be continuosly considered. Ignore or neglect one, then the dynamic of the whole work may be interrupted and ruined. Albeit the possibility of a new, initially unwanted turn, which might result in extraordinary new, attractive ways.

Susanna Cardelli is a painter, calligrapher and grafics artist, autodidact by choice. Born in Rome, baroque art runs in her veins. A good amount of talent in the arts was passed on to her by her family. During her childhood she traveled the world with her parents, thus developing an affinity to different ancient civilizations, a taste for the decorative arts of the midoriental region and also for the impetuous strokes of european expressionism. She studied communications design in Augsburg, Germany. Having worked for many years as set-designer for feature films, she currently is part-time employed at the Filmstudios in Babelsberg, and continues working as freelance calligraphist for government institutions, international companies and private clients. She has lived in Berlin with her family since 1998, working both there and abroad.
