When I was a kid at school Louis was among the chimps bought to my school fate for our entertainment. They had a tea party on our sports field as they were part of a tv ad campaign to sell tea. He lived his life working for a big corporation and living in a zoo, he died in 2013, I hope he had a happy life. Oil on card, mounted in an antique photographic dark slide, ready for hanging with a back wire. I made the image after finding a picture of him in a free paper and remembering his impact on my life. A portion of this sale will go to charities working to end the use of animals in circuses and zoos where they are there purely for entertainment. This painting has been washed over with a white glaze to re create how the cheap newspaper print was. This I think feels a bit distancing, almost a ghosting of his image.
